Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
From The Danielson Group Team
During Teacher Appreciation Week, The Danielson Group (DG) wants to express gratitude and give thanks to teachers who are continuing the incredible work that they do every day in service of students—especially during uncertain times and widespread change. It is during these times that educators historically step up and recommit to the instructional practices that will support the development and success of today’s students.
The Danielson Group (DG) is here to support the work of supporting our teachers to grow their practice. Together, we can empower teachers to be their best through professional learning systems and practices that promote inquiry, innovation, dignity, and joy. The DG has been thinking a lot about the concept of belonging and how it relates to our sense of efficacy as educators, and how that translates to the role of belonging as a learner.
"Educators who apply the FFT as their definition for the instructional practice they want to see in every classroom understand that a student’s sense of belonging can be a catalyst for greater engagement and success both inside and outside the classroom."
A goal of our organization and the Framework for Teaching (FFT) is to support teachers in creating environments where every learner feels they belong. Through professional learning practices, we are committed to empowering and encouraging teachers on their journey to create a sense of belonging that supports students current and future successes. When students experience belonging in the classroom, they are not only more inclined to engage with the content and their peers but are also better prepared to take on their future roles of active citizens in a diverse society. This can be achieved through specific teaching practices and meeting students where they are in their learning. We believe teachers deserve this same approach to their own learning. Building a strong affirming culture amongst teachers and leaders is more important than ever as educators explore new practices for the changing classrooms of today.
In reality, the entirety of the FFT provides a comprehensive definition of effective teaching practices and can serve as a roadmap for continuous growth, while emphasizing the creation of positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environments. One of the core tenets of the Framework is the cultivation of a respectful and affirming culture for learning—an environment where students feel safe to express themselves, ask questions, and explore new ideas in the process of learning. Additionally, the FFT provides educators with a structured approach to creating learning environments that are asset-based and promote belonging, self-regulation and collaboration. Aligning teaching practices with the principles of belonging not only enhances academic outcomes but also reinforces the social and emotional development of students.
The DG team continues to see real-time transformations that are possible within professional learning systems that value and support the wellbeing and growth of its educators and students. We would love to support your school community in this work.
